First, We recommend them to use a library of the university. The library has abundant books, magazines, newspapers, CDs and videos. We think the library is one of the greatest library in Kumamoto. It also has private rooms to watch movies, to listen to audio-visual aids or to use the computer. They can use the computer and other audio stuff for free whenever the library is available. The library usually opens almost every day. However, the library is closed national holidays and other anniversaries. But don’t need to worry. They can borrow the materials how many they want. It is for 2 weeks in a rental term.
Next, we think they should participate in some events of the university. For example, there are school festival and some other events. Especially, we think that exchange students came from other countries where people live in English should participate in 2 camps. One is ‘the Freshman’s Camp’. The camp is like welcome party for freshmen. The purpose of the camp is to make freshmen get use to speak English. Lots of freshmen tend to take part in the camp every year. Another one is a camp named ‘the English Weekend’, and only a small number of students less than 30 usually participate in the camp, so it’s a chance to get closer with their friends than ever. The 2 camps absolutely help exchange students to make friends. Exchange students can participate in the camp for free. If they have friends already until sign up for ‘the English Weekend’, they can invite their friends to the camp. Even if the friends aren't the students of the department of English, they can participate in the camp.
Third, this university has a cafeteria and a bakery. Both of these have varieties of menu. They may find their favorite one, so we recommend trying visiting there once. Cafeteria is located in the first floor of the building 3 and bakery is located in the first floor of the building 12. We think that it helps their wallets because any menu which are served there are cheaper than to buy at other stores. In addition to that, any menu are enough tasty.
Fourth, we introduce ‘the English Lounge’. We think exchange students, especially ones who came from regions where people speak English, must know this information. In this university, a space named ‘the English Lounge exists. People in the space can speak only English. In other words, people who have entered the space must not speak other languages. If exchange students visit the space constantly, they can make lots of friends definitely. Because it seems that people go there want to be friends one another. Actually, most of exchange students make most of their friends there. There are many games, for example, darts, board games and cards. When they have nothing to do such as a interim between classes, they ought to go there. There is another merit to visit there. The merit is that both of japanese and foreigners can be taught each language by native speaker. We think this is very important role of ‘the English Lounge’.
Fifth, we introduce a training room. We think exchange students want to exercise not to be lack of exercise. More or less, there is just one class of P.E. a week in this university, so they should go and exercise at the training room. The training room is located in the gym next to the entrance gate of this university. If students of the university want to exercise at the training room, whoever uses it for free. Exchange students often exercise at the room. Any students of this university can use the room from Monday to Saturday, and the room opens from 10:00 am to 10:30 pm, but they can’t use the room only anniversaries. There are many machines in the training room such as running machine, but if students want to use the machines, they need to bring their running shoes.
Sixth, KGU is located near downtown. It takes about 15 minutes to get to downtown by bike. There is also good transportation such as bus. Some buses drive the way from Kumamoto Station to this university directly. Of course, the buses also drive from this university to the station. The buses usually run several times a day, but they don't work on anniversaries and national holidays.
In the case exchange students have no idea something important, they should go to a window of Kyoumuka. The window is set at the first floor of the building 11. The window is located near 'the English Lounge'. In the case exchange students lost their belongings, they should go to a window of Gakuseika. The window is located at the first floor of the building 4. There are many lost articles at Gakuseika. If exchange students left something behind, they should go there and ask a clerk at first.
At last, we think the most important thing is to enjoy their university life, so we think they should do what they want to. We really hope they could enjoy their campus lives here. If there is anything they don’t know, they should ask someone. That is the shortest way to enjoy their university lives. In conclusion, we would like exchange students to know facilities of this university and use them a lot. We really want exchange students to enjoy and make many good memories. Good luck.
